Patients undergoing migraine and mTBI treatment
At the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) Headache Center, the SGMA Index is being applied to monitor memory in children and adolescents with migraines, mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI), tension headaches, and persistent daily headaches. The goal is to standardize psychological measures for this population and gain a deeper understanding of the cognitive impacts of these conditions. Additionally, the SGMA Index is being used to track memory during repetitive navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rNMS) treatment for migraines.
Furthermore, the SGMA Index is being studied for its potential to monitor recovery from mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI) in children and adolescents. Its ease of administration makes it an ideal tool for mapping cognitive impairments and recovery trajectories in this population.
At the Technical University of Munich, the SGMA Index, alongside MRI neuroimaging, is being employed to investigate the mechanisms underlying acute migraines. Participants in this study complete SGMA assessments before, during, and after migraine episodes to track changes in memory over time.
Preliminary data on 15 healthy controls and 11 patients with migraine were published as an abstract in NeuroPediatrics. The outcomes of these studies may help to evaluate whether the SGMA Index can serve as a low-cost sensitive behavioral marker during the trajectory of migraine and based on these findings as well for other common headache disorders or neurological diseases (e.g., epilepsy). A noninvasive, highly precise adaptive computerized, point-of-care tool to monitor cognition will be of great value both in day-to-day care and scientific research.
